When I finally sat down to watch it this past weekend, I was quite pleased with how well thought-out it is!

The storyline, though not unheard of, is not your typical everyday situation - and really left me reflecting on the fact that this DOES happen in some churches.

An overly controlling widow who feels she owns the Church, manipulating everyone in her path as a subtle/cunning character that only Jackie Prucha could have brought to life! I totally loved her in this movie! Yes, she was the "bad guy" but her acting was excellent - sending chills down my spine et al.

I gave the acting quality a 4-star rating only because there were parts where it could have been better - but overall, it was engaging (yeah that's the word).
I don't know why I was expecting everyone to live happily ever after, but some main characters did die in the movie, and that was another shot of reality... but eventually, God was glorified. I like the way the movie displays the sovereignty of God despite the shortcomings of the Church.

I think the Daws Bros did a good job with this one... hope the next one is better!

"Saving God: One Soul At a Time" comes straight from the hood - and is therefore quite different from Christian movies we are used to. A movie by Cloud Ten Pictures, it does a very good job of giving us a glimpse into the life of an ex-con turned pastor - in a place where God was the odd one out and survival was everything.

Armstrong Cane is on a mission to save as many people as possible for God - even if he has to forcefully get their attention. He threads a very thin line between his old and new man (even has a few lapses) - while trying to mentor a young man named Norris, and prevent him from making ghastly mistakes.
Cane was reminded about his horrible past, it seemed, every time he turned around - but he was determined to carry on with the mission even if it meant risking his life and violating parole.

When tragedy struck a second time, he realized that maybe God's plan was not so straightforward and he simply had to submit and let it all unfold. When it did, he was at the right place and he was ready - giving us a bittersweet ending to a story of life through death.

------
I recommend this movie for those who are not bothered by some "straight talk" from a Christian movie. The makers tried not to pretty things up too much, hence the "not preaching to the choir" feel of the movie. The dialogue is believable and the struggles are real.

She travels far and wide, with a famous reporter hot on her heels, as she looks for clues and evidence.

Even though the note was not meant for every likely candidate, it brought her full circle to a very special Christmas gift of her own - one she could not have dreamed of.

Set in a community that's much like one most Americans live in, the movie follows the life of Dave and Clarice Johnson - a pro baseball aspirant turned handyman, and a very successful real estate agent. We see the challenges they face in the marriage, as they try to make it work despite the dashed hopes and unfulfilled longings. As is very typical of most marriages, they drift apart, listen less and each focus on what makes them happy.

Everything comes to a screeching halt, when they experience a tragedy that sends them spinning in an unexpected direction. Instead of drawing closer together, they drift even further apart - leaving enough room for all kinds of third-party to take residence.

The long process of healing reveals buried hurts and agony; and the concept of forgiveness surfaces in several forms.

The movie ends in a climatic moment, when Clarice realizes what's important in her marriage and what's not - and moves to make things right. God also decides to step in, and provides relief to a really sore spot in the marriage.

I highly recommend this movie for mature audiences, who are having challenges in their marriages, or perhaps need a glimpse into how Christian marriages sometimes survive the evils that threaten to destroy them.

The suffering of imprisoned Christians, the torture they face, and the mark of the beast are all facts revealed in the Bible - and the director of the movie brought them out in a way that convinces us that these things are not mere fantasy or the ramblings of someone thousands of years ago. With the continuous growth in technology, it's not hard to imagine what life will be like after Christ comes, and the earth goes into the post-rapture.

SIX - The Mark Unleashed is a great conversation starter especially with people who are not believers.

Murphy gets an extra dose of this when his career success becomes unexpectedly tied to how well he performs as a father - how well he can "enter" into his daughter's imagination, live the fantasy with her, and speak a "language" she understands. This in turn translates into some serious superstar moments for him at his job, a "language" he understands.

The movie continues in several really funny moments when Eddie Murphy does what he's done for so many years - make us laugh. We see how he gains a better understanding of what it means to be a father, and how when the moment finally came for him to decide just what he was willing to give up for fame and fortune - he decided his daughter's love wasn't.

I have to say, he made me wonder for a bit how a practically isolated Christian could continue to have such strong faith in God, while I struggle with it sometimes. There was no church scene, so I wonder how much of a Christian community there was, but maybe the movie did not want to stray away from the book.
